Tortoise Separately Managed Accounts

Serving institutional and individual investors seeking

industry leadership and expertise

Energy

At Tortoise, we bring more than a decade of experience in MLP energy investing. Our Energy separately managed account solutions serve both institutional and individual investors seeking industry leadership and expertise, with approximately $9.0 billion in assets under management as of August 31, 2018.

Midstream MLP strategy

The Tortoise Midstream MLP strategy includes customized portfolios of publicly traded securities of midstream master limited partnerships (MLPs) in the energy infrastructure sector. These companies transport, gather, process or store crude oil, refined petroleum products (including biodiesel and ethanol), natural gas or natural gas liquids. We serve investors seeking a high level of total return potential with an emphasis on current cash distributions and managed risk.

Select strategy

The Tortoise Select Energy Opportunity strategy targets investments with the potential to benefit from catalyst-driven opportunistic themes across the energy value chain and beyond. The strategy provides access to North American energy companies and their beneficiaries that Tortoise believes are, or will be, in a differentiated position to benefit from changing dynamics, catalysts and opportunities that may include: • Paradigm shifts • Changing market trends • Infrastructure constraints • Supply/demand imbalances • Price differentials • Restructuring • Valuation & structural disparities • Mergers and acquisitions.

Upstream strategy

The Tortoise North American Upstream strategy provides a dedicated focus on North American crude oil and natural gas production, which supports energy independence. The strategy invests primarily in equity securities of upstream North American energy companies that engage in the exploration and production of crude oil, condensate, natural gas and natural gas liquids that generally have a significant presence in North American oil and gas fields, including shale reservoirs.

Tortoise Capital Advisors is the Advisor to the Tortoise Midstream MLP strategy, the Tortoise Select Energy Opportunity strategy and the Tortoise North American Upstream strategy.

Core strategy

We believe that the global, macroeconomic environment is the primary driver of returns within the fixed income marketplace, and that understanding the trends within this environment provides us with the best opportunities to add value. Our disciplined approach utilizes a top-down, sector and industry rotation investment style that is integrated with independent, bottom-up fundamental, technical and valuation analysis for issuer and security selection.

Core Plus strategy

We believe that the global, macroeconomic environment is the primary driver of returns within the fixed income marketplace, and that understanding the trends within this environment provides us with the best opportunities to add value. Our disciplined approach utilizes a top-down, sector and industry rotation investment style that is integrated with independent, bottom-up fundamental, technical and valuation analysis for issuer and security selection. In addition to our Core approach, “Plus” sectors, International, High Yield and Bank Loan are used tactically when the environment favors these sectors; allocations to the “Plus” sectors vary, as their attractiveness can fluctuate sharply with the global economic cycle.

High Yield strategy

Our High Yield philosophy incorporates the use of higher quality tiers of the High Yield universe (BB and B) in an effort to maximize total returns during normal economic periods, but minimize loss of principal during periods of rapid credit deterioration. Within this framework, the average credit quality is shifted according to our assessment of the present state of the economic cycle. We endeavor to enhance returns in favorable economic environments when credit conditions are improving and protect principal by adopting a more defensive average credit quality when the economic cycle is deteriorating.

Municipal Opportunities strategy

The Municipal Opportunities strategy provides access to municipal securities of issuers in essential social and public service sectors. The strategy seeks a high level of tax-exempt income. Essential assets of social and public service providers such as education facilities, healthcare facilities, housing and infrastructure are critical to enable, sustain or enhance societal living conditions and support the core of everyday life.
